Here are a few things we learned about the chips’ especially addictive Nacho Cheese flavor that we didn’t know before, based on the New York Times’ interview with food scientist Steven A. Witherly, author of Why Humans Like Junk Food.

  • Garlic gives you “Dorito breath.”
  • The cheese is Romano cheese.
  • Your brain thinks licking the dust off your fingers is more flavorful than eating it on the chips.
  • Consumers like snack foods that are brightly colored, and Doritos are packed with 3: an artificial red color and two different types of yellow.
