We all know Hugh Laurie as the disgruntled yet endearing M.D. he plays on House.  Well now it’s time to make way for Laurie, not the M.D. but the blues artist.

Laurie announced a collaboration between himself and music label WME to produce a blues album to be recorded this summer, saying he’s “drunk with excitement at this opportunity.”  Laurie, a self-taught musician, is to be teamed up with Joe Henry, a musician and producer who has worked with artists such as Elvis Costello, Teddy Thompson, and Madonna to create the album, said to “put the spotlight on his passion for New Orleans blues.”

“I know the history of actors making music is a checkered one, but I promise no one will get hurt,” says Laurie. And if they do, at least House can fix them up fast. (via the New York Times)
