Ever wonder to yourself what it would be like to see Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor make out? Well, that’s kind of a weird thing to wonder about, but nevertheless, you will soon have your chance. I Love You Phillip Morris, the highly buzzed about gay prison dark comedy starring the two unpredictable actors, has announced it will hit screens Dec. 3.

The film—about an ex-cop with a penchant for insurance fraud (Carrey) and his jailhouse romance with inmate and con artist Phillip Morris (McGregor)—made a big splash at Sundance in 2009 and drew high marks from European critics, but struggled to find a distributor in the U.S.

Consolidated Picture Group eventually purchased the rights, but an on-going legal battle between them and French production company EuropaCorp over an allegedly unpaid $3 million resulted in at least three cancelled release dates and a potential fate of never making it to U.S. cineplexes. However, today Roadside Attractions and Liddell entertainment announced that the controversial film will see the light of day, after all.

It may have been a struggle, but things look bright for Carrey and McGregor. The film arrives just in time for Oscar season, and if there is one thing the Academy likes to do, its give Oscars to (or at least nominate) straight guys who play gay guys, just ask Colin Firth (A Single Man), Sean Penn (Milk), Jake Gyllenhaal, and the late Heath Ledger (Brokeback Mountain)—and that’s just in the last ten years.

We haven’t seen the movie, but judging by the comments of those who have, we can safely say it will be better than I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry.
