San Francisco-based mashup artist DJ Earworm has released his highly anticipated annual compilation of the year that was in pop music. For “World Go Boom,” he combed the weekly Billboard charts to find the 25 biggest hit singles of 2011. And unsurprisingly, there’s a ton of Katy Perry. The “Firework” singer dominates the mashup with three songs, and she’s backed by artists like Adele, Bruno Mars, LMFAO and Rihanna.
What’s also not surprising is how DJ Earworm makes his mashups sound like marketable hits on their own. For jaded old folks like NewsFeed, it’s just another sign that popular music all sounds the same. But even so, it’s definitely catchy.
