The four-and-a-half-minute video features a physically transformed Anthony; her long brown hair has been chopped into a blond bob and she wears thick eyeglass frames. Recorded on Oct. 13, Anthony discusses how surreal her life feels and how excited she is over her new computer.
“I’m extremely excited. I’m excited that I’ll be able to Skype and, obviously, keep a video log, take some pictures and that I have something that I can finally call mine. It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to call something mine,” she says.

One of Anthony’s defense attorneys, J. Cheney Mason, has adamantly declared that the video’s release was “unauthorized” and that Anthony might have been hacked, the Chicago Tribune reports. Mason cites the video as part of “notes for her personal use and for future counseling purposes.”
The tone of her speech and subject matter she covers — new computer, an adopted dog that she “loves” — seem strange and affected, lending itself to something like a public update rather than a private one. Not once does she mention the trial or her daughter, though she does say that she will be in her current hidden location on probation in Florida until at least February.
Anthony notes that things are “starting to look up and are starting to change — in a good way,” and expresses her desire to get over being camera shy (which is odd, since Anthony was on camera constantly in 2011).
