Hollywood heartthrob Channing Tatum took to the SNL stage for his first time, and while his stripper past was invoked no fewer than three times, the laughs were focused on other checkered pasts: those of Newt Gingrich and Lana Del Rey. Here are the five best skits from this week’s show.
Plot: The classic Spike TV announcer – you know, the one with the condescending frat-boy voice that overemphasizes every sentence – takes his irreverence to one of the most revered shows on television today: Downton Abbey. Naturally, the disembodied voice of the manly man starts by objectifying the daughters, then proceeds to deliver the ultimate glove slap to Downton lovers – labeling Dame Maggie Smith as “The Chicken Lady.” But for those that don’t understand Downton’s appeal, this sketch provides pervasive laughs.
Best Line: “What’s Downton Abbey? Basically it’s about a bunch of honkies that live in a church. Or maybe it’s a museum. Either way, they don’t got wi-fi.”
