Having the name Abraham Shakespeare would give any man a lot to live up to. It seemed this particular Shakespeare was moving up in the world when he bagged $31 million in the lottery in 2006.
But then, in 2009, he completely vanished. The curse of his millionaire status meant that his family was temporarily convinced he was merrily vacationing in the Caribbean.
In 2010, the chilling news emerged that his body was found at a private property in Plant City, Florida. His remains were encased in a concrete tomb. This property belonged to the boyfriend of a woman who befriended him the year after his big win.
Shakespeare’s friends revealed the tragedy of his victory; they said he had told them “I’d have been better off broke,” and “I thought all these people were my friends, but then I realized all they want is just money.”
