For just $40, you can attend the Kentucky Derby (not counting the prices of getting there, parking, staying somewhere, your mint julep, etc.). A general admission ticket gets you into the grounds, the paddock area and the infield — along with 80,000 of your closest friends. Most of them won’t even see a horse, let alone the race, as the views from the inside of the track’s oval are atrocious. But the infield is an event unto itself — the third turn is notorious for the alcohol-filled antics of youth (think Spring Break condensed into two or three minutes), although there’s also a family-friendly area on the opposite end of the infield.
