A tense espionage thriller and one of Scott’s more underrated films, Spy Game stars Robert Redford as a CIA officer nearing retirement and Brad Pitt as the young agent he once mentored. After Pitt is captured by the Chinese, the CIA brings in Redford to help them cut him loose in a coldhearted effort at damage control. But Redford has other ideas. His big final scene, “Operation Dinner Out” — in which he cuts Pitt loose from under the noses of the Chinese and of his own CIA associates — is a classic double blind con worthy of an earlier great Redford film, The Sting.
