The base of Richard III's skull, which has had a section sliced off (bottom right), is seen in this photograph provided by the University of Leicester on February 4, 2013.
According to researchers, Richard III sustained 10 separate injuries to his skull. Scientitsts hypothesized the blow that killed him was “trauma to the back of the head,” where part of his skull had been sliced off. There were two more potentially fatal blows found on his skull, perhaps inflicted by a sword or a halberd battle axe.
