If you want a celebrity endorsement, you could do worse than Ron Burgundy.

Actor and occasional San Diego news anchor Will Ferrell and has endorsed Democratic candidate Eric Garcetti in Los Angeles’s mayoral race in a television spot that had the comedian rambling about his “life-long” friendship with the City Council Member.

The California native told viewers that he wanted a vibrant and healthy city, and said that Garcetti’s track record for promoting economic growth and reducing crime, and his vision for the future of L.A., was unmatched among candidates.

Ferrell is known for his unorthodox endorsements and celebrity appearances — for example, the series of ads he created for Old Milwaukee beer, some of them in Swedish, or the time he dressed up as a security guard to eject Shaquille O’Neal from an L.A. Lakers game.

If you mess with E2 – Garcetti’s nickname back in the day, according to Ferrell – then you mess with Ferrell himself — a.k.a. Sweet Buns.

Los Angeles will vote for their 42nd mayor in a March 5 primary election on March 5, according to Yahoo! News, with a runoff election on May 21.  The new mayor will be sworn in on July 1.
