The celebrated Danish astronomer and alchemist Tycho Brahe (1546-1601), who lost part of his nose in a sword duel when he was 20 years old, wore a replacement schnoz — long thought to have been silver or perhaps even gold, but most likely made of thin, shaped brass — for the rest of his life.
