Jonah Kohn, 14, wanted the more than 30 million Americans with hearing loss to experience music in a meaningful way. So, the San Diego native created a “multi-frequency tactile device” that breaks up the sound spectrum and then attaches to various parts of the user’s body, literally making one’s body a speaker. His idea was hatched after learning he could experience music by putting his teeth on a guitar, so his device filters sound into frequency ranges for a new full-body musical experience. And Kohn, from San Diego, Calif., got to hear the sweet sound of success as he won the top prize in the 13-14 age group.
