Thank you very much for posting this. This horrific and abusive blood trade must end! NO living creature belongs on a crowded street, pulling around lazy and ungrateful people!

Totally agree with ending the abusive treatment of carriage horses. Oh, wait, abuse is already banned. And the carriage horse industry has oversight by four different agencies, and regular inspections by the ASPCA, not to mention the daily inspection by New Yorkers. The anti carriage people believe it's abusive to allow a well cared for horse that weighs from 1/2 to one ton  horse to pull a carriage, mostly at a walk, on roads that were originally paved to make it easier for horses to travel on. Having watched them frequently and seen the stables I came to my own conclusions instead of falling in line with the sheeple that fall for the emotion based misinformation and propoganda the anti carriage horse people put out. So  I can't agree that carriage horses are being inherently abused and should be the next Big Gulp banned from the Big Apple.

Ummm, all of the NYC carriage horses have a "blissful retirement to the nearest equine-friendly meadow"... please do your research and read this statement by Blue Star Equiculture http://www.equiculture.org/nyc...

They should ban the killing of thousands of adoptable dogs, cats, and kittens each year in their disease-infested NYCACC shelters...

I have a real good idea, ban Sunday shopping so families can spend some time together. Plus this would help with the traffic situation not to mention the environment as well.  www.saveoursundays.ca and spread the movement.

So, some wet-behind-the-ears-intern -- and a blow-in from out of town, no less -- wants to ban our iconic, historic, beloved horse-drawn carriages.  Isn't that spesh-ul.

Maybe she's just secretly miffed that no man ever offered to take her onerous, snarky self on one on a moonlit night.

Or maybe she's just ignorant.  Or maybe some smart horse in the past sussed her for her anti-horse views, and kicked her.

In any event, I say we keep the horses, and ban interns from Northwestern U.

Or maybe you're carriage driver who does not share the opinion of many NY'ers who feel that the time has come to end an antiquated and abusive practice, and your only course of stating your views is to use name-calling and insulting language?

And maybe you forgot that it's the "wet-behind-the-ears-blow-ins-from-out-of-town" that actually RIDE in those contraptions?

Horse lover?  HA.  Horse driver, more likely.

And please, please, prove my point by calling me names.

Awwww. Is our stuck-up, overly sensitive, brand-new-to-the-big-city nose out of joint?? Let's ban YOU and keep the wonderful, gorgeous, awesome carriage horses, how about that, Terri POOP. They smell WONDERFUL, and they were here FIRST.

I nominate racists and xenophobes. Except in reality you have the choice to be ignorant and hateful, while they don't have the choice to be whatever race/religion you think is superior.

NYC should ban Time magazine which is about as useless a yellow journal as is produced.

what should they ban next?  how about freedom... that seems to be thing every one is taking away in large droves.

Only the Waheebocrats are taking away freedom.  Wahobama feels if it's not specifically allowed, it IS specifically forbidden.

NYC should ban the practice of banning things that aren't necessary.

"Taking up an entire subway pole by leaning against it while others struggle for a handhold" - Hah! Yes to banning this! And not just in New York!

Last I check the State of NEW YORK was a state not just a city......the city does not hold the monopoly on "New Yorkers". Last time I checked I lived in New York state which makes me a New Yorker.

But please continue thinking that you are somehow special and cool because you live in the city and ignore the fact that the city cannot sustain its self with out actual land, you know "up-state" where all your "local" food really comes from and materials you need to live your annoying life, all those lovely imports.

And please do not bother to "weekend" in the country or at the shore....stay in the city.

Wow. Just, wow. Carriage horses ? Hipsters? "Yuppies"?

Trust me: Real New Yorkers are far too busy doing cool sh!t in their own lives to get worked up about these sorts of obvious (and very, very old) targets.
