As the subway system remains closed, employees from the MTA are helping to pump 43 million gallons of water out of each of the tubes of the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel (formerly the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel). The operation is being guided by a team from the Army Corps of Engineers “Unwatering” team flown in from Illinois.
