It could have just been swept under the rug or buried in a scathing document. But supervisor Paula Reid, the Secret Service’s Miami bureau chief, made sure that the implicated agents would be publicly reprimanded for their sexual misconduct in Cartagena. Reid, a 21-year veteran of the Secret Service, not-so-quietly expelled the 11 agents from Colombia, using the “steely” resolve that vaulted her up the ranks at the agency to be sure the men involved were dealt with. Despite the praise showered on her for her skilled handling of the dark situation, Reid has kept her comments about the case strictly professional, telling the Washington Post she’s “confident that as an agency we’ll determine exactly what happened and take appropriate action.”
