Here’s a tip: If you steal a car and then rob a bank at gunpoint, don’t brag about it on YouTube.
Unfortunately, this bit of seemingly obvious advice came too late for 19-year old Hannah Sabata, who was arrested on Nov. 28th.
Sabata, of Stromberg, Neb., faces charges in connection with the robbery of a Cornerstone Bank branch in Waco, Neb., on Nov. 27th, according to CBS news affiliate KOLN. What tipped off the police to the suspect? The text she sent to her ex and the YouTube video she posted, which featured her bragging about the crimes she’d committed and flashing a large wad of cash.

“I’ve been sheriff for 19 years, and in law enforcement for 42 years, and I’ve never seen anything like this,” York County Sheriff Dale Radcliff told the New York Times. Radcliff said Sabata sent a text message to her ex-boyfriend, bragging that she “had a pile of money after robbing a bank and asking if he wanted to go get a new tattoo with her.” Instead, the ex called the police — who were already getting calls about the video, which was uploaded the day after the robbery. Sabata was arrested within hours.
The seven-minute video, which was uploaded by a YouTube user named Jellee Beanie and titled “Chick Bank robber,” shows a young woman holding handwritten signs (a la Bob Dylan) stating that she robbed a bank and stole a car. The woman holds a large bundle of cash in front of the camera and then pauses to smoke what the subtitles call “a full bowl of weed.” Sheriff Radcliff said a copy of the video will be used as evidence against Sabata.
Sabata is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 26, KOLN reports.
