Above all, this sketch offered Galifianakis the opportunity to dress up in a weird costume and generally just be weird, which is clearly a good thing. He plays Duncan, a very eager contestant on a Jeopardy!-style show called “Game of Game of Thrones.” The twist here is that while the other contestants get to show off their knowledge of the HBO fantasy show, Duncan keeps getting questions about the real world that he simply cannot answer. For example, “The Lannisters are the wealthiest family in Westeros, but let’s say they want to put their money in a Roth IRA. What is a Roth IRA?” and “What is the capital of Wisconsin?”
Though perhaps not backed by the most original premise, the sketch comes to life thanks to it actors. Joining Galifianakis is Bill Hader, who plays host O.J. Sampson, who, yes, has had “a long, hard life.” We also get a surprise cameo from actual Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, so that was exciting. Not quite as exciting as our dear host’s awesome dragon costume, but still pretty good.
