Obviously Tina Fey is one of the funniest people in the biz, but alas, her monologue was mostly dedicated to introducing the show’s six new featured players. The new comics (Beck Bennett, John Milhiser, Kyle Mooney, Mike O’Brien, Noel Wells and Brooks Wheel) donned gold lamé shorts and shimmied around the stage as Fey barked commands at them, explaining that this was a rite of passage and an SNL tradition. That made sense, but everything probably would have been better if Tina Fey had just talked for 20 minutes. Despite being humiliated in the monologue, several of the newbies got to play some decent roles later in the night.
