The Dachshund fell one spot this year from number eight to nine, but this pint-sized breed can consistently be found in the AKC’s top 10, even climbing to the fourth position in 2001. Dachshunds are a lively and playful breed known to be excellent hunters — hence their name, which means “badger dog” in German.
