What you’ll need:
- Loose, easily-removed clothing
- A strikingly large male doll
- Copy of The Baby Book by Dr. Bill Sears
It was the magazine cover that spurred endless discussion and controversy. Attachment parenting proponent Jamie Lynne Grumet posed with her then 3-year-old son on TIME’s May 21 cover — the catch, of course, was that the 26-year-old mom was breastfeeding her son right there on the cover. Naturally, the striking image spurred quite a bit of parody, with the world’s cleverest Photoshop wizards weighing in with their visual commentary on the cover. This Halloween, though, you can pay homage to the original “Breastfeeding Mom.” Just throw on some casual clothes (Spandex recommended, or for an even more maternal look, we suggest Mom Jeans.) and fasten a doll to your chest. Ideally, you won’t mind lugging around a copy of Dr. Bill Sears’ 767-page tome, The Baby Book, which launched the attachment parenting movement. But prepare yourself, because just like the real breastfeeding mom, you’ll likely raise some eyebrows.
