Pilot Felix Baumgartner of Austria celebrates after successfully completing the final manned flight for Red Bull Stratos in Roswell, New Mexico, USA on October 14, 2012.
What you’ll need:
- White jumpsuit
- Helmet
- Gallons of Red Bull
- Parachute (optional)
- Massive helium balloon to lift you off the ground (even more optional, but if you pull this off, you’ll be a Halloween champion)
At any point during any story you’ve got the perfect one-upmanship line: “Yeah, well I free-fell from space and broke the sound barrier.” Try topping that! Austrian Felix Baumgartner took over YouTube and an entire weekend news cycle by jumping from a balloon that propelled him to the edge of space, breaking the record for the highest free-fall at 24 miles. He also became the first person to break the sound barrier outside of a vehicle. Fortunately, to pull off a Baumgartner costume this Halloween, you won’t need any special stunts. Besides the space-age getup, we recommend a touch of Austrian accent, a daredevil spirit (for legal reasons, we can’t quite recommend jumping off the roof of a house to announce your presence) and an unmatched swagger. Oh, and be sure to guzzle plenty of Red Bull — who contributed untold millions to sponsor the jump. Basically, you’re a daredevil who drinks Red Bull. In a space suit.
